Question: Why is it that every time I see a video, listen to a podcast or read anything that mentions April Vokey, someone just has to say,"April Vokey is the real deal" or "April Vokey is no joke"? Is it because she's pretty? I'm willing to bet that if she looked like Rosie O'Donnell, there would be significantly less gushing about how good she is. (No offense Rosie...) I feel like what these guys really want to say is, "Wow, she's hot! And she fishes! She's the perfect woman!"
There are a lot of respected female fly fishers, but no one ever says "real deal" or "no joke" about them, but seemingly without fail, everyone says it about Ms. Vokey. Should I point out that I've also never seen or heard this said about a guy? I find this curious and a bit annoying. Does it offend April? I just don't get it. It seems like this is a typical situation where we all go out of our way to compliment pretty girls. Perhaps it's evidence that we actually need more females in the sport. Maybe then everyone could calm down and stop stepping all over themselves to compliment her.
She is pretty though...no joke.
